November 30, 2001 On Tuesday night, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved that the developer's application go to the Board of County Commissioners with a favorable recommendation and a caveat that there are community concerns regarding ownership of submerged lands used to calculate density, storm water run-off control, and septics so close to the harbor -- all of which were determined by the P&Z board to be beyond their scope and competence to address. The development application will be heard by the Board of County Commissioners at their regular 9:00 a.m. meeting on Tuesday, December 4th. Our plan for next week will be to have our attorney address the commissioners and present our concerns. The developer has changed the proposal (AGAIN) so as to develop only the peninsula portion of the property at this time with the proposed plan to build 35 homes with aerobic septic systems on that piece of property. This is the most fragile part of the property. By dividing the property and developing it in smaller sections they are attempting to avoid having to meet the higher standards of a development of 50 or more homes. However, the remaining sections of the property can be developed later. The plans that they gave us show a total of 71 homes when all property is developed. Also of interest is the fact that the state has recently voiced a desire to purchase this property for preservation. APTA officers, directors, and members who have the time are encouraged to attend the Board of County Commissioners next Tuesday. This will be a very important meeting and it is important that our voices be heard. I am providing the contact information for the County Commissioners, so that if you are unable to make it to the meeting, you will be able to contact them personally if you would like. If you call the commissioners, please ask them to consider this proposed development very carefully and to please ensure that this development will be done responsibly and with respect for the character of Alligator Point and it's unique environment and the Aquatic Preserve. I'll keep you posted......thanks for all of your help! Vicki Barnett Franklin County Commissioners Eddie D. Creamer 206 Old Ferry Dock Rd. Eastpoint, FL 32328 (850) 670-8132 Cheryl Sanders P.O.
