The Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the commercially zoned Old Point Lounge property, to be known as The Beach Club at Alligator Point, was favorably endorsed by the Franklin County Planning & Zoning Commission on Tuesday night for forwarding on to the County Commissioners. I expect it will be heard by the Commissioners next Tuesday, who will then set up a public hearing for the PUD prior to approval. If approved, the PUD will permit construction of a 26-unit condominium on the property and prohibit any commercial activities. Included in the proposed development are a pool, snack bar, and spa. The property is being purchased by Don Nichols, who is the developer for the Hidden Harbor project. The concept, as stated by the developer's representative, is to do two things. One, build and sell the condos to private owners. Two, offer a "nominal" either monthly or annual membership to the public for use of the pool and beach facilities. One of the reasons for this project by Nichols, according to his representative, is to provide beach access for his Hidden Harbor development residents.
I have attached a site plan for the development provided by the developer's representative.
