The first meeting of the Franklin County Commission for the new year was
very brief, due to the preceding holidays. Items of business were:

A notice of award for $106,415 from the federal Coastal Impact Assistance
Program (CIAP), received on Dec. 30. County Planner Alan Pierce had applied for the funds in May of 2001 at the board's direction, and the letter of intent filed at that time stated that the Board intended to direct all of the CIAP funds towards the long-term recovery and shoreline stabilization of
Alligator Point. Pierce said that he would have a better idea over the next few weeks as to what the CIAP would permit the funds to be spent for.
